Described as “a female version of Ed Sheeran”, “Bjork and Lily Allen on acid”, and “crossing the Mark Knofler line of rhythmic finger picking”, industry professionals have recognised her tenacious guitar abilities, vocal ingenuity and songwriting artistry. With many songs featured on this album coming from a place of lament and grief from the travelling on and from both people and places to somewhere we’re not yet able to go on a metaphysical and real level. Others speak of surrender and wonder in how she sees the world and how she seeks to live in it but not of it, with the aim to get the listener thinking and asking questions from these relatedly abstract themes. Comparatively, there is a stillness about this collection of psalms, pulsating with reflections of life, its tribulations, moments of elation, the search for consolation, quest for justice and the hunt for contentment through the human language of a pilgrim’s song.
